Shree Yantra: Meaning, Benefits and How to Place It at Home

 ·  3 min read

Of all the yantras in the Vedic tradition, the Shree Yantra (also called Shri Chakra) holds the highest place. It is regarded as the geometric form of Goddess Mahalakshmi, and many families keep it at home and at work for abundance and harmony. Here is what it means, its types, and how to place and worship it correctly.

Quick answer

Place the Shree Yantra in the North-East or in your puja room, facing East. Install it on a Friday during Shukla Paksha, and worship it daily with a diya, flowers and the Lakshmi mantra.

What is the Shree Yantra?

The Shree Yantra is made of nine interlocking triangles radiating from a central point called the Bindu. Four triangles point upward, representing Shiva (consciousness), and five point downward, representing Shakti (energy). Together they form 43 smaller triangles, surrounded by lotus petals, circles and a square outer boundary with four gates (the Bhupura).

The Bindu at the centre represents the source of all creation. Meditating on the yantra from the outside towards the centre is described as a journey from the material world to the divine.

Why it is called the king of yantras

Most yantras are linked with one deity or one purpose. The Shree Yantra is believed to contain the energy of all deities and to support every area of life, including wealth, health, relationships and spiritual growth. That is why it is often called Yantra Raj, the king of yantras.

How to place a Shree Yantra at home

  1. Choose the place: the North-East corner, your puja room, or near your cash locker.
  2. Pick the day: a Friday, during Shukla Paksha (the waxing Moon), preferably in the morning. Diwali and Akshaya Tritiya are especially auspicious.
  3. Purify it: wash the yantra with Gangajal or raw milk, then wipe it with a clean cloth.
  4. Install it: place it on a red cloth, facing East, at or above eye level, never on the floor.
  5. Worship it: offer kumkum, rice and flowers, light a ghee diya and chant Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Kamale Kamalalaye Praseed Praseed Shreem Hreem Shreem Om Mahalakshmyai Namah 108 times.

Daily care

  • Light a diya or incense in front of it every morning, even if only for a minute.
  • Keep the area clean; never place shoes, dustbins or clutter near it.
  • Clean it gently with water once a week. Brass can be polished with lemon and salt.
  • If you buy a new yantra, keep the old one respectfully or immerse it in flowing water; don’t throw it away.
